East Devon Wildlife Supported by able2achieve Learners

The Countryside Team recently welcomed a group of adult learners from able2achieve, an organisation that supports individuals with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, and other associated needs to develop skills and build confidence for more independent living.
This visit followed the success of a previous hands-on session at Trinity Hill Nature Reserve.
This time, learners worked alongside Nature Reserves Ranger Ben Morgan-Brown at Seaton Wetlands, helping to create dormouse boxes that will be installed across East Devon nature reserves to encourage nesting by this endangered species.
Working in small teams the learners assembled the boxes with care and enthusiasm contributing directly to an important local conservation project.
Joe Knight, Learning Manager, able2achieve said: “We’re delighted to have developed a partnership with the East Devon Countryside Team, who offer our learners such a fantastic variety of experiences. Building dormouse boxes was a unique opportunity and knowing that these might one day house a real dormouse is incredibly rewarding for everyone involved.”
Nature Reserves Ranger, Ben Morgan-Brown said: “Working with able2achieve is always a pleasure. The learners who took part in the dormouse box making session brought great enthusiasm to the task, and to the conservation goals behind it. We look forward to sharing updates with them once the boxes are in use.”
